What is a "Licensed Building Practitioner" or "LBP"?

  • The LBP scheme came in on the 1st of April 2012.
  • A Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) is a licensed tradesperson you can trust to carry out building work.
  • LBPs get their licence after an assessment of their competence to do the type of building works they hold a licence for.
  • All LBPs can only carry out work they are licensed to do.
  • You’ll need to use LBPs for any work affecting the structure of a building or weather tightness.
